One of India's greatest left-arm fast bowlers, Zaheer holds an impressive record of taking 311 Test wickets in 92 matches for the Indian team and a total of 610 wickets in 309 international matches across all formats.

At the same time, Balaji has played eight Test matches for India, in which he has taken 27 wickets at an average of 37.18. Apart from this, he has taken 34 wickets in 30 ODIs.
The appointment of new support staff for the Indian team comes after Gambhir was appointed as the head coach by the BCCI on Tuesday.

Former India opener and T20 and ODI World Cup winner Gambhir also played the role of team mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2024. Under his guidance, KKR won their third IPL trophy this season. He was the captain of the KKR team that won the IPL in 2012 and 2014.
